A congestion charging zone has been proposed for Copenhagen by the Social Democrats and Socialist People’s Party, reports the Copenhagen Post.
The scheme would introduce road tolls along the city’s Ring Road 2, with motorists paying varying fees depending on the time of day, but proposed at 25 kroner during rush hour.
It is estimated that the annual cost to a commuter would be 11,000 kroner. The proposers claim the charge would generate up to two billion kroner, which would be funnelled back into improving public transport and roads and eventually reducing public transport costs by 40 per cent.
