Homeless shelter closes in Copenhagen

A shelter for the homeless in Copenhagen has closed because it has run out of funding, reports the Copenhagen Post.

En Varm Seng was forced to turn out its current occupants. The privately funded shelter was for foreigners, who cannot, following the introduction of a controversial policy in 2007, use Danish public shelters, says the Post.

Homeless charities have warned that the city will see a significant rise in the number of rough sleepers. Public hostels who tried to accept foreign homeless last winter were threatened by the Ministry of Social Affairs that they would lose their funding if they did so, says the Post.
